Field Trip: White Oak Pastures Farm

Details:
Join TEACH for this Saturday field trip that is perfect for families! White Oak Pastures is a multi-generational family farm that cooperates with nature to produce artisan products that are healthy, safe, nutritious, and delicious.

We will have a 1-hour guided walking tour and observe the beef and poultry abattoirs, biddy and bunny barn, egg candling machine, and 6-acre organic vegetable farm.
After the tour, families can choose to eat lunch featuring food grown and raised right on the farm at the White Oak Open Air Restaurant (see a sample menu here). Another lunch option is to bring your own lunch and eat at a picnic area at the nearby Kolomoki Mounds State Park.

Since Kolomoki is so close to White Oak Pastures (a 19 minute drive), some families will be making a day of it by touring the Kolomoki Indian Mounds following the White Oak tour and lunch. All families are welcome! See Kolomoki Park admission fee information here.

How to Collect Box Tops for TEACH (and win a prize too!)

Did you know that you can help TEACH offer more great homeschooling resources by collecting Box Tops?

Since our dues do not cover all of our expenses, TEACH counts on Box Tops to make up the difference. Box Tops enable us to purchase additional books, DVD's and resources for the TEACH library. 

There are over 250 participating Box Tops products. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents, and last year, TEACH earned over $300 from Box Tops! This year we will be offering prizes when you bring your Box Tops to our meetings.
How it works:

  1. You collect Box Tops from grocery and household products
  2. You bring Box Tops to any TEACH meeting and put them in the “Box Tops” box located at the check-in table (the person with the most Box Tops at each meeting wins a prize!)
  3. TEACH sends the Box Tops in, and Box Tops sends TEACH a check in the mail

Simple right? Here are two ways to collect more Box Tops:

  • Check out this list of 250 Box Tops products to find more box tops on products you already buy
  • Ask neighbors, friends, extended family, co-workers, and Facebook friends to save their Box Tops for you
Remember, the person to bring the most Box Tops to the TEACH Meeting on September 30th will win a prize! Please bring 100 minimum to qualify.

Details:
The Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra gives an annual Young People’s Concert for children, a cultural event of exceptionally high quality focused on presenting a live symphonic music experience to young people. This year’s program, Spaceman Invades Symphony, is programmed for students in first through fifth grades. TSO does not mind younger & older children attending as long as they have seats available and if the children can sit quietly and attentively during the concert (last year a member brought her 4 year old along). Space is limited, so sign up early. Due to the nature of this field trip, payment is due by October 3rd and tickets are non-refundable.

If you cannot attend the field trip on Thursday, there is a Family Night Spaceman Invades Symphony concert on Friday, Nov. 21st at 7:00pm at Ruby Diamond. It is still $7 per person. Please go to: www.tallahasseesymphony.org to buy tickets.

"Homeschooling Strategies" September 30th Meeting

“How do I homeschool with toddlers?” “What is my role as a homeschool dad?” “What about high school?” “How can I help my struggling reader (without losing my mind)?”

Get answers to questions like these at our September "Homeschooling Strategies" Meeting! We are thrilled to have special guests Jolie Emhof and Sheila Maxwell, as well as other veteran homeschooling moms and dads, to share their successes, laugh at their mistakes, and answer your questions along the way. Bring the whole family!


Tuesday, September 30th

6pm – TEACH Library Opens

7pm – Meeting Begins (Children’s Character Class during meeting)

This event will be encouraging to both new and experienced homeschoolers, so bring a friend! Email your questions ahead of time to teachtlh@gmail.com, or bring them with you to the meeting. Seasoned homeschoolers, please come and bring your answers!

Also at the September Meeting:

Children's Character Class Kick-off: This month is the first Children's Character Class of the year. Children of all ages can learn about Godly character traits in this popular class taught by Jordin Hicks, which takes place during the meeting time.

Field Trip Signups: Look for signup sheets at the check-in table for several exciting upcoming field trip opportunities.

Box Tops Prize: There will be a prize at the meeting for the person who brings the most Box Tops that night! Participants will need to bring at least 100 to be eligible. Box Tops enable us to purchase additional resources for the TEACH library, as well as to offer great events throughout the year. Check out a full list of 250 Box Tops products here.

TEACH Library: The TEACH Library will be available from 6-7pm. Come early to check out our wide selection of books, DVD's, and CD's. If you still have resources from spring, please bring them to return.

TEACH 2014 - 2015 Kick-Off Meeting Recap

It was wonderful to see so many of you at the TEACH 2014 - 2015 kick-off event! A good time was had by all as we enjoyed food, fellowship, and even some door prizes.
A quick recap of the highlights from the meeting:
The next three meetings are as follows:
-          September 30th, Library opens at 6:00pm, Meeting is at 7:00pm
-          October 28th, Geography Fair, 7:00pm (details coming soon)
-          December 2nd, Library opens at 6:00pm, Meeting is at 7:00pm
We welcome you to bring the whole family to our meetings! Jordin Hicks will be teaching a character class for children during each meeting time again this year.
Please remember to join TEACH. Annual dues are only $25 per family, which is an incredible value in light of all the membership benefits such as field trips, library access, co-ops, and more. You can click here to download a membership application.

TEACH 2014-2015 Kickoff Meeting on August 25th!

TEACH invites members and non-members alike to join us on Monday, August 25th for our 2014-2015 Kickoff meeting and family potluck dinner at Piedmont Park Church! Fellowship and dinner begins at 6:00pm, and the meeting will follow at 7:00pm. Each family should bring enough food for their family and some to share. TEACH will provide the paper products, utensils, and drinks.

This event will provide families an opportunity to catch up with friends, make new friends, and sign up for 2014-2015 events. We will have membership applications and sign up sheets for upcoming activities. You can also download and print a TEACH Membership Application to bring with you.

We will also be hearing from the TEACH board on plans for this school year. Any local, Christian home school groups are welcome to use this time to make announcements regarding your activities this year as well.

There will be some exciting door prizes too, so mark your calendars as we kick off the new school year!

Geography Fair will start at 6:30

If you are not a member of TEACH there will be a $3 charge per Country.
 
For those of you not wanting to do a Country, we invite you to come visit each Country and put together your passport to the World!
