Recipe for Homemade Laundry Detergent

1 cup Arm and Hammer Washing Soda

½ cup 20 Mule Team Borax

1 bar soap (FelsNaptha or Castile)

Grate the bar soap and add to a large saucepan with hot water.  Stir over medium low heat until soap dissolves and is melted.

Fill a 5 gallon pail half full of hot water.  Add the melted soap, Borax and washing soda.  Stir well until all powder is dissolved.  Top the pail up with more water.

Use ½ cup per load.  Stir soap before each use.  We store it in liquid laundry containers and shake it before each use.  (It’s a good idea to make sure the lid is on before you shake).

I only make ½ a batch at a time.  It lasts a good while.

I was able to find all the ingredients in the laundry aisle of a larger Publix.
