Brenda Dickinson and her husband, Craig, were pioneers in the present-day home education movement. She served as president of TEACH in the late 1980s. Brenda successfully home educated her two children from kindergarten through high school. She has served as an advisor, consultant and mentor to parents and has lectured on varied topics relating to home education.
She served on the Advisory Board which lead to the development of The Florida Virtual School, an award winning, nationally recognized virtual school. She has represented the interests of home education families on the Florida High School Athletics Association Public Liaison Advisory Committee, on the Department of Education 2002 School Code Re-write Task Force, the McKay Scholarship Task Force, and the Florida Department of Education Articulating Coordinating Committee.
She became the President of the Home Education Foundation after the death of her husband in 1993. As a result of her work in the Florida Capitol, home education students enjoy participation in dual enrollment, Bright Futures Scholarships, extracurricular activities, the Florida Virtual School.
